We like to conduct at least three types of meetings with a prospective client prior to signing a "preliminary agreement" to build (see bullet points above for the meeting types).
For a homeowner, it is important to connect with a builder as early as possible in the custom home building process. If the client has not purchased a lot for their home, it is still a great time to meet with at least three reputable prospective builders. The initial consultation can help the builder and the client see if they are a ´fit´ and start to look at the client’s wants and wishes. Getting a builder involved prior to lot selection is beneficial because the client then has the benefit of the builder’s experience to help analyze each potential parcel. The builder will be able to discuss site logistics such as topography, width, easements, etc. and how these will impact design and budget.
Additionally, prospective clients have the opportunity to visit some of our projects, which typically are at different stages of the construction process. These meetings enable the client to view our quality, our construction practices and our service levels. They also provide a platform for clients to view new and different design and selection alternatives.
Finally, we conduct a “Process” meeting in which we walk the client through the details of our overall construction approach: how our deposit agreement works, how we begin working with the client’s architect and engineer, preliminary pricing, identifying selections, working through the building department, finalizing the budget and contract and beginning construction – the part we call fun!
